Secret Socks for Mac OS v.1.0.2

Tech savvy people have long been using proxy servers to get around restrictive firewalls at work, or in oppressive countries that filter net access. A SOCKS proxy allows you to break through a firewall, and SSH makes sure your data is protected with encryption. Normally, setting this up involves typing commands in Terminal, and then manually updating your settings in Network Preferences. And when the SSH session is over, you have to undo those settings. Kind of tedious if you have to do it every day.

With Secret Socks, you just type in your password, click “Connect”, and you’re done! Bonus: Some companies (and governments) have started using deep packet inspection (DPI) to block people from connecting through SSH. But Secret Socks is enabled with obfuscated-openssh, which defeats DPI! Your SSH server must also support that in order for it to work though.
- There was an error that prevented the system network settings from updating automatically in Snow Leopard.
- Secret Socks could not update network settings for interfaces besides AirPort.
- Slimmer user interface. Config settings and status screen can be hidden in a drawer.
- Password field has its own drawer. (Just hit enter, type the password, and hit enter again.)
- Menu interface.
