Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio extend Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 to enable the creation, building, debugging, running and packaging of scalable web applications and services on Windows Azure.Please note that this is a CTP release and should not be used on production systems. Please see the EULA for more details. Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio includes: * C# and VB Project Templates for creating a Cloud Service solution * Tools to change the Service Role configuration * Integrated local development via the Development Fabric and Development Storage services * Debugging Cloud Service Roles running in the Development Fabric * Building and packaging of Cloud Service Packages * Browsing to the Azure Services Developer Portal * SSL Certificate selectionInstructions 1. Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to Service Pack 1 OR Install Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 OR Install Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express with SP1. 2. Install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (or above) Install with Visual Studio 2008 or Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition with SP1 OR Download and install 3. Enable IIS7 with ASP.NET and WCF HTTP Activation Windows Vista- From the Start menu, choose Settings | Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.- Click Turn Windows Features On or Off.- Under Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, select Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation.- Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Application Development Features, then select ASP.NET and CGI.- Install the selected features. Windows Server 2008- From the Start menu, choose Programs | Administrative Tools | Server Manager.- In Server Manager, under Features Summary, choose Add Features.- In the Add Features dialog, under.NET Framework 3.0 Features, select the .NET Framework 3.0. Under WCF Activation, select HTTP Activation. Click the Next button to install.- In Server Manager, under Roles Summary, verify that Web Server (IIS) appears in the list of available roles. If it does not, click Add Roles to install Internet Information Services.- In Server Manager, under Roles Summary, click Web Server (IIS).- In the Web Server (IIS) management window, click Add Role Services.- In the Add Role Services dialog, expand Web Server, then Application Development, select ASP.NET and CGI and click the Next button to install. 4. Install the Hotfix: Native Debugging Improvements (not required for Visual Studio 2010) 5. Install the Hotfix: Support for FastCGI on the Development Fabric (not required for Windows 7 RC or later, or Windows Server 2008 SP2 or later) 6. Install the Hotfix: Improve Visual Studio Stability (not required for Windows 7 RC or later) 7. Install the Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio July 2009 CTP (VsCloudService.exe)
