WinSite is the Planet's Largest Software
Archive for
Windows shareware and trialware
on the Internet.
A history lesson.
WinSite Group (formerly
the CICA Windows FTP archives at Indiana University-Bloomington, online
from 1991-1994) went on the
air Friday, October 13th, 1995. Despite the
superstitious date, we emerged from the temporary
accomodations generously provided by Indiana
University's Center for Innovative Computer
Applications (CICA),
to a full T1 Internet connection (which we
easily saturated), with three times the processing
power and twice the disk space.
Ah, those were the days. Today we have rack-mounted servers, gigabytes of disk storage in disk arrays, a diesel-powered backup generator, and all sorts of bandwidth. It's enough to give us grey hairs.
The WinSite archives receives its careful management and gentle care from its original founders, and its many, many friends. We are pleased
to continue serving the authoring community
by sticking to our CORE mission: providing an easy, free, and strong online presence for the promotion of
and advocate for the best Windows shareware, freeware, and trialware on the
Internet.
What's here?
With the continuing support of the shareware, freeware developer community, we present an amazing array of
software. Games, utilities. Things that make your printer print better, and tools and utilities to
help you computer better. Our collection is carefully selected. Checked
for viruses. Approved by humans, for the use of humans.
We are proud to serve as a digital "host" to some some of Bloomington's most creative people and their projects. The Association of Monroe County Taxpayers, Indiana Biodiesel, St. Charles School, and many others. Let us know if you are interested in our services.
We can't do this alone.
We need your support. (Show your
support--consider making an easy, secure donation through PayPal to help our
efforts. Or, build your own WinSite CDROM--select the packages, burn them on CD. Mail
them to your house.) We also have various
advertising opportunities on our site. Authors, give
your package the attention it deserves. Let us design a campaign for your
software.
