Finding the Right File at WinSite
Finding the right file is not always a simple process. Especially if you
are sent to WinSite from another web site.
Many web sites link to WinSite by providing listings of files found at
WinSite. However, WinSite files are regularly updated by their authors.
These updates do not always use the same filename. Thus, the links at
other sites may be outdated. If that's the case, when you are sent to
WinSite to download a file, you can receive an error stating that the file
does not exist on WinSite.
You should go to the WinSite search engine at
http://www.winsite.com/ws_search.html
,
and search for a similar filename.
Instead of searching for "musthave.zip", search for "musthave". You will
receive results which include "musthave21.zip" or any other permutations
of filenames or file descriptions involving "musthave".
This will help if the updated file still uses "musthave" in its
filename or description. What happens if the author's update uses an
entirely different filename - like "wonderous.zip"? Searching for
"musthave" will just produce another missing file error. In that case, you
can try searching using a descriptive keyword. For example, imagine this
file is a dice game developed by Zippy, Inc. Try searching using the
keyword "dice" or the keyword "Zippy". You might have to look through a
list of 20 dice games, but you will probably find the right file.
